So I have to work today, which means the usual perusal of British television with Hola to proxy through work's internet. I just happened upon

. I can't remember, did Argentina lose?
This has everything we love: Big ol' airplanes, bombs, Britain, and our newly found love for Argentina all wrapped up in one package. If you have Chrome and don't have Hola to watch this (what are you doing with yourself?)

Yeah, Britain was able to recapture all the islands and in the process shot down a crapton of the Argie air force.

Brezhnev took Afghanistan.
Begin took Beirut.
Galtieri took the Union Jack.
And Maggie, over lunch one day,
Took a cruiser with all hands.
Apparently, to make him give it back

I recall seeing this or something similar before - it took some extraordinary number of air tankers to get one or two Vulcans to the Falklands and back.

I'd totally recommend reading "Vulcan 607" by Rowland White. Taking a bunch of aircraft headed for the scrapheap, fitting them out for air to air refuelling which nobody had done in 20odd years, and fitting countermeasures required for defence used insane amounts of Heath Robinson style improvisation.

Well, the Argentine government lost the war, but the Argentine people kind of won, in the end, since losing the war caused their horrible dictatorship to finally collapse.
